Throughout the tour you will visit 9 haunted locations in and around Greenwich Village and see historical places that are home to some of the strangest tales you’ve ever heard.
The Edgar Allan Poe House
One famous stop on the tour is the Edgar Allan Poe House. Poe was a phenomenal writer who created some of the most interesting and absolutely terrifying tales in literature. Join us as we explore his home and find out more about the author. Learn more about the inspiration behind some of his stranger tales. Perhaps the lingering spirits were what led to his rise to fame or perhaps he was the cause of their appearance.
The Triangle Factory Fire
Learn about the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. This tragic event led to the death of nearly 150 people. Men and women were forced to jump out onto the street for survival, but only so many people could make it. Despite the tragedy of the event and the intensity of the flame, the building itself survived. In fact, it ended up being transformed into a library and even classrooms for New York University. Despite the changes, the past cannot be erased, and the lost souls from that very fire are rumored to still remain trapped within the same location to this very day.
Famous Landmarks Where Ghosts Love to Roam
No place is without its fair share of otherworldly activity in New York. If you were expecting to enjoy a lovely dinner at a restaurant, you may find yourself with unexpected guests. For example, the “One if by Land, Two If by Sea” restaurant sits in the heart of the West Village. Behind its beautiful décor and amazing food sits a rather peculiar atmosphere. The restaurant operates inside a carriage house that was built in 1767. Once a home, the place was converted into a brothel and pub. Since the late 1700s, the area has been rumored to be haunted by Aaron Burr. Despite the claims of ghosts roaming around, the restaurant has remained in operation since 1910.
The history of the most romantic restaurant in New York City is a long one that is filled with mystery and intrigue.
Mark Twain’s House of Death
The House of Death was the living space of the historic author. Although Mark Twain only lived there for a year, there are still sightings of his ghost. People claim to see Mark Twain wearing a white suit. Sometimes he is viewed near the staircase or on the first floor. In fact, there have even been claims of the ghost speaking to people when they catch sight of him. Mark Twain isn’t the only ghost that resides in this area either. There’s reportedly dozens of ghosts haunting the street where Mark Twain once resided. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled and be prepared for anything to happen.

It’s All Based on Fact
While some ghost tours are designed to only scare you with tales of misery and woe, New York Ghost Tour does things a bit differently. We firmly believe in the fact that some of the scariest things in this world, and the next, stem from true stories.
Some of these tales are a lesson and reminder of the cruelty of humanity. We’ve spent tons of time researching and delving deep into the history of Greenwich Village in order to uncover the stories too frightening to be shared with everyone.
Do You Claim You Aren’t Afraid of Ghosts?
It’s easy to act as if ghosts don’t walk among us, but what happens when you enter into the den of where they roam freely? When you see something that sits in the corner of your eye, will you act as if it is a figment of your imagination or run away in fear? New York is known for its hauntings throughout, but you won’t find many places as haunted as Greenwich Village. From the very first place where we start the tour, you can bet that every step you take into the tour will lead you to another location that has been known for strange sightings and paranormal activity.
Test your mettle to the fullest extent by journeying with us and taking a trip through centuries of history lost to many people that roam the streets of New York. New York Ghost Tour is more than willing to take you up on the challenge and show you why the ghosts of New York are sometimes particularly fond of those who claim to be unafraid or worse yet, a nonbeliever.
